Being situated in a beautiful part of rural Suffolk there are plenty of things to do in the area. We are a short drive away from the coast at Aldeburgh (famous for its international music festival and legendary fish and chips!) and Southwold (home of Adnams Brewery), and Framlingham itself is the perfect town for a stroll, shop and glimpse of history – there’s even a Town Trail marking all the primary sites of historic interest. As well as the market right outside the studio on Saturdays which offers great local produce together with trinkets and collectibles there are excellent shops too, for gifts, food, fashions and antiques and a mouth-watering selection of cafés, tea shops, pubs and restaurants (see below).
The 12th Century castle, once the home of Mary Tudor, is a short walk from the studio. The curtain-wall structure still remains, giving visitors the chance to walk around the castle walls for magnificent views of the surrounding town and countryside. Surrounding the castle is The Mere, a natural haven full of wildlife and popular with walkers, where dogs are allowed. Apparently it contains over 290 species of plants and 80 species of birds. Do, however, bear in mind that Mere means ‘lake’ – so remember your wellies if you’re going to walk its banks during wet weather.
Children of all ages will love a trip to Easton Farm Park (10 minutes away) or The Meare at Thorpeness. We can give you further information on request.
