Britain is a nation of pets! In fact, according The Pet Data Report 2017 we have around 54 million of them. 12 million households have a pet, which equates to 44% of all UK households.

The Pet Data Report is released annually by the PFMA (Pet Food Manufacturers Association). It is based on data gathered from TNS over two years by means of an omnibus survey of approximately 8,000 households. The data is considered of sufficient quality and accuracy to be used not only used by PFMA members but also various other organisations including government departments, pet care businesses, welfare charities and the media.

Of the estimated 54 million pets currently in the UK, fish account for around 33 million and non-aquatic pets around 21 million. Of the non-aquatic pets, dogs and cats are the most popular: there are 8.5 million dogs in the UK and 8 million cats – belonging to 23% and 18% of homes respectively. Interestingly, dogs tend to be more popular in the north and west, and cats in the south and east.

Along with the rise in the number of pets, there is also increased interest in the UK in pet photography. One of the obvious destinations for these is social media: it seems every profile or page has animal photos on it somewhere. There are also niche websites and apps – such as Catastic and Dog Boogie – that enable you to add special effects to your pet photographs then share them on social media.

But it would be a shame if all our photos of our beloved pets are in social media form only. Pets are such a special part of our lives that it would be wonderful to have some lasting mementos on more permanent media in our home. At Venture Studios we recognise this, and offer a range of options to display our stunning pet photography. You may want framed photographs to go on surfaces around your home, or may prefer some of our distinctive wall art. Either way, we can offer you the perfect display media to showcase your special pet.

At Venture Studios, pet photography is one of the areas which we really enjoy. We have photographed all manner of pets: not just dogs and cats but also small animals such as tortoises and – at the other end of the spectrum – horses! We also love to involve pets involved in our family photoshoots, resulting in a special family portrait that truly reflects the whole family.

If you are interested in having some professional pet portraits done, you may be concerned about whether your pet will be uncomfortable or scared in a studio. In our experience, the animals do get used to it very quickly – perhaps even enjoying it more than their owners! You may also like to bring along some toys or their bed, which can both act as props and also provide some additional comfort and security. And plenty of treats of course!

To get an idea of what a Venture photoshoot is like, check out this video of the Lyons family and their dog Dexter. Not only does it capture the fun of the photoshoot itself, but you can see the stunning family portraits that result from the shoot, and see how wonderful they look in the home.

Enjoy your pet: and be proud to be one of the millions enjoying their company in the UK. Treasure every moment, and be sure to create some lasting mementos that will keep your pet close to you for years to come.
