Your Family in Three Words

A couple of years ago a new Smartphone app called what3words began to attract lots of attention. The app divides the world into 57 trillion 3 metre squares. Each square has a unique three word description. This is its what3words address.
The aim of what3words is to enable anyone to find, share and navigate to any specific location. So if you are either trying to find somewhere, get hopelessly lost yourself, or are in an emergency situation, the what3words app could be a gamechanger.
What3words addresses are randomly assigned. Some well known locations are:
- slurs.this.shark – 10 Downing Street
- engine.doors.club – The White House
- spoon.brand.harmless – The Eiffel Tower
However, every building – even a small house – will have a variety of different what3words addresses because they change every 3 metres. So if you start using what3words and want to share your location with someone else, you should at least have some choice in which what3words address you prefer!
What 3 words describe your family?
The what3words app does demonstrate the tremendous power of just three little words. In the case of the app they are randomly generated. But it can also be interesting and fun to try and condense other significant aspects of your life into just three words of your choice.
For example, what 3 words would you use to describe your family? That’s a tough one isn’t it!
For starters, what does “family” actually mean? We tend to think of the traditional British family as being a mum, dad and two or three children. But family structure in the UK has gradually evolved, and can now be any married, civil partnered or cohabiting couple – with or without children – or a single parent with at least one child. Many of us also have extended families and step families. And some family members live alone. But even if we don’t live in the same household as everyone all the time, they are definitely family.
But family is about more than just who lives where. It is also about the character of your family. Do you have fun together and laugh a lot? Are you all fanatical about a particular sport, even if you don’t support the same team? Do you love your food, drink and big family celebrations? Or are there bad habits that seem to run in the family, like being messy or always running late?

Let’s face it, 2020 was a pretty awful year for families. And so far, 2021 has not been much better. But now there is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel we want to give you the chance to celebrate your family, and to make up for all you have missed because of the pandemic.
So we’re giving one lucky family the opportunity to become our Venture Family of the Year.

To enter our competition, all you need to do is fill in the entry form on the Venture Family of the Year competition page.
On the entry form you need to tell us:
- Why you think your family deserves to be our family of the year;
- The family events you missed due to the pandemic;
- The style of family photography you like best;
- The kind of props your family would bring to a photoshoot.
You can also add a photo of your family.
And of course, you need to describe your family in just three words!
