Twelve reasons to smile in 2021

Happy New Year from Venture Studios photography

2020 did not give us much to smile about. At the beginning of the new year – and new decade – there was a feeling of hope and optimism in the air. Anything seemed possible. And indeed it was: but not in the positive way we’d hoped for.

Covid-19 has disrupted our lives in so many ways during 2020. Let’s hope that with the arrival of several vaccines we can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and enjoy some good times in 2021.

To whet your appetite let’s look ahead to some things we should be able to enjoy in 2021. One for each month. Twelve reasons to smile in 2021.

January Journey

Let’s face it, January is never an easy month. Add Covid-19 into the mix, and January 2021 is not looking good. But it’s time to think positively. The vaccine rollout will continue, which means that we are gradually getting closer to be able to return to some kind of normality.

So this January let’s hunker down and look forward to better times ahead. In fact, this January is the ideal time to give 100% focus to whatever resolutions you have made for the beginning of 2021. Whether that is doing Dry January or Couch25K, improving your home, learning something new, moving forward on a creative project or finally getting your finances under control: now is the time to nail it.

If you view January as the first small step in the journey towards a better you in 2021 then that’s one very good reason to keep smiling through this difficult month.

February Fun

Though February may still be cold and wintry, there is a lot to look forward to this month. The week of Monday 15th February is half term for most schools in the UK. A week when we should be able to get out and about a bit more than we have recently, and enjoy some family fun. Not only that, but this week also includes Valentine’s Day (Sunday 14th) and Pancake Day (Tuesday 16th). Both occasions to make the most of with those you love.

Hopefully Covid restrictions will be beginning to ease by now, so we can have some long overdue fun with our families in February.

March Metamorphosis

And breathe!

March is the month when the clocks spring forward and we finally begin to realise that spring is on its way. Mornings and evenings are lighter, and everything begins to feel just that little bit better at this time of year: a time of positivity and change.

March 2021 will also mark the milestone of a whole year since the first national UK Covid lockdown. Let’s hope it’s onwards and upwards from here.

April Awakening

Easter 2021 falls on Sunday 4th April. Easter is traditionally a time of awakening and celebrating the beginning of new life. By this time in 2021 it’s realistically possible that everyone in the UK will have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and that we can all begin to enjoy the freedom of the new normal.

If you feel as if the past few months have been a bit of a hibernation period for you, then April 2021 could represent a new awakening in every sense of the word. Capture the beauty of this moment with the help of some spring photography tips from Venture Studios.

May Merry

What’s not to like about May?! Not one but two Bank holidays to look forward to. Monday May 3rd and Monday May 31st. Unlike 2020, where things were so disrupted that we hardly noticed Bank holidays at all; in 2021 they will definitely be days to celebrate.

Let’s hope for some glorious May sunshine and make merry outdoors with family and friends, enjoying the long light evenings.

June Jamming

So many live events planned for 2020 were not able to take place. The music industry has been hit particularly hard by Covid-19, with over 90% of live gigs cancelled. Fast forward to 2021 and we hope to see many of them reinstated again.

At the time of writing, the organisers of Glastonbury are hoping that the festival can go ahead in 2021, but are not yet in a position to confirm this. So here’s to keeping everything crossed that it can.

And not just Glastonbury, but all the other major and local festivals that would normally take place from June onwards. Too many to name individually but each one valued and special in its own way.

Assuming events do go ahead, check out our article Festival Fun for helpful photography tips on how to capture the special moments of the event forever.

July Jollies

Ah just think back to those heady days of last July, when we were finally allowed to mix again. This year let’s hope that we can do so with no restrictions at all.

What a lovely month July is. Schools break up, so this month can be a bit of a free for all in terms of outdoor games, picnics, BBQs, garden parties, street get-togethers. Just general jolliness. Which is definitely something to smile about!

August Away

Most of us did not manage a summer holiday in 2020. Everything conspired against us: Covid restrictions, ever-changing quarantines, either too much work or lack of work, not enough money . . . and so the list goes on.

But in 2021 holidays will hopefully be ON. Whether you choose to travel abroad or within the UK, or feel happier enjoying a Covid-free staycation at home, the world is your oyster this August!

September School

Now, going back to school is not normally something that you might want to celebrate. But think about it. Particularly if you have a child starting a new school, or a son or daughter heading off to Uni, this really is a huge life milestone worth celebrating. In 2020 we were not been able to do this, which is a real shame for the children and families involved.

So in 2021 let rip! Celebrate every second of your child’s transition to the next phase of their life. Because you can. And your children deserve it.

October Outings

By the time it gets to October you are wondering how on earth the year has gone past so quickly! But it has, and Hallloween is fast approaching.

Halloween 2020 was a bit of a washout. Not many families did the usual trick or treating, and most Halloween events and parties were cancelled. So now is your chance to celebrate Halloween wholeheartedly. And check out our article Top Tips for Halloween Photography to make sure you capture it in style!

November Nights

Clocks go back at the end of October, and by November we really notice that the dark nights are here. Fortunately there are fireworks celebrations to look forward to, and this year – unlike 2020 – we will be able to enjoy them with family and friends.

So make sure you keep your eye open for local fireworks celebrations and get along to at least one of them, if not more. It’s also another opportunity for some great photography to commemorate the occasion. Our article Fireworks Photography – Tips to Remember this November will help you to get the very best shots that will bring you hours of joy for years to come.

December Delights

And so we get round to Christmas again. But what a Christmas this will be! All being well, we will be able to have Christmas parties, eat, drink and be merry with friends and family, and enjoy Christmas markets, shows and events with no restrictions at all.

So if Christmas 2020 has all been a bit of a disappointment, then dwelling on how amazing Christmas 2021 is going to be should put that smile back on your face.
