What to bring to a cake smash photoshoot?

Here at Venture we love meeting you and your little ones and what better way to celebrate an upcoming first birthday than with a cake smash!

Not sure what a cake smash is?

A cake smash is an incredibly fun photography session where your child is encouraged to let loose on a birthday cake. Imagine icing all over their face, cake covered fingers and lots of giggles and smiles all captured by our highly qualified bunch of photographers.

We have some hints and tips on how to achieve the most striking images when visiting us for a cake smash.

  1. Choose a soft buttercream style cake

You don’t want hard icing that is difficult to break, instead choose soft icing that is easy for your child to get their hands stuck in.

  1. Avoid decorations

No choking hazards please – choose a more simple cake with lots of colour and nothing that might spoil the fun.

  1. Avoid chocolate cake

They might taste yummy, but once they are all mushed up, they might look like something that belongs inside their nappy.

  1. Let the cake get to room temperature

Take the cake out of the fridge the night before, so it has time to soften up and easier for little hands to break apart.

  1. It doesn’t have to be cake

Don’t presume it must be cake – if your child loves doughnuts, chocolate or anything other food that they love nothing more than smearing everywhere – the messier the better!

  1. Co-ordinate the cake and accessories

Don’t dress your child in anything you don’t want to get dirty! There are lots of nappy pant coverings and romper sets online for you to match to your cake. Why not add a birthday hat with number 1 on, or some birthday bunting for the backdrop – if you are struggling for ideas just ask us when you book!
